ABOUT
Sigma Tau Delta Society
Sigma Tau Delta is an international English honor society for students at accredited colleges and universities that grant baccalaureate or higher degrees. The honor society was established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing, and is dedicated to fostering literacy and all aspects of the discipline of English.

Alpha Zeta Iota Chapter
Anyone who loves writing or reading can join us for our weekly meetings, whether you are a registered member or not! You also don't need to be an English major or anything to join; we've had people from all academic backgrounds in the society before. We provide guest speakers, workshops, and a literary and writing community for all. We mostly host workshops where you can bring whatever writing you want to work on, whether that be a short story, essay, screenplay, poem, chapter of a novel, etc. Workshops at Sigma Tau Delta can be super helpful for any writing assignments you might have, or if you just want to improve your writing overall!

How to Join
UNOFFICIAL MEMBERSHIP
Please email the organization email located in the Contact Info section if you would like to join our mailing list. You can just show up to meetings whenever and be part of our Chapman Sigma Tau Delta community!
OFFCIAL MEMBERSHIP
Having an official membership gives you exclusive access to scholarships, internship and publication opportunities, writing contests, writing resources, an annual writing convention, and so much more. Email our supervisor Professor Lewis Mildred to sign up for an official membership; her email is located in the Contact Info section. Click here to learn more about becoming an official member!
SPRING 2023 REGISTRATION now open
If you would like to become an official member, please film out the form above, follow its directions, and send it to Professor Mildred Lewis, whose contact info is located here! There is also a one-time fee around $40. (Remember—you don't need to be an official member to come to our meetings!)

About Kelly
Kelly Taylor (she/her) is a junior in the Honors Program majoring in creative writing and history. She hails from South Florida and has dedicated the last two years to editing and reviewing the lovely works submitted to Calliope each semester. She currently serves on the editorial board of Voces Novae, Chapman’s award-winning historical journal, and as a freelance editor for Future House Publishing. Her most recent short story was just published in the 2023 issue of the Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
I joined Sigma Tau Delta to meet other people who love what I love. Reading and hearing about all the stories running around in everyone else’s heads has been the highlight of my undergraduate career. I hope that our chapter can be as much an outlet for you as it has been me.

About Isabella
My name is Isabella Melendez and I am a current Junior at Chapman! I am an English Literature major and an Anthropology minor. I transferred to Chapman University in the Fall of 2022 and found Sigma Tau Delta through the club fair.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
Through this could, I have found a group of students and friends who have welcomed me and allowed me to become part of this great organization. What I was looking for in this club has exceeded my expectations, and I hope to continue to welcome others in the future.

Rhyan Warmerdam is a junior English Literature major. When they aren't reading or writing, they enjoy surfing, swimming, hiking, and camping in their free time. While studying abroad London recently, they discovered a love of spoken word poetry there as well.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
I joined Sigma Tau Delta to find other like-minded people who appreciate books and writing. It's really nice to be surrounded people that I share a common interest with, as we can all connect over similar subjects and inspire each other to become better writers. Sigma Tau Delta is an amazing group that I am so grateful to be a part of!

About Alexus
Alexus Trujillo is a creative writing major with a business administration minor. He is a senior transfer student from Davis, California. He has an eclectic interest in genres varying from novel writing, short fiction, memoir, and graphic novel writing. Further, he has been an editor for the student-led literary magazine, Riverrun and has worked with several exceptional artists for his various graphic novel projects.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
I joined Sigma Tau Delta to push my academic credibility further and also to be able to use the resources provided by the chapter. Scholarships and internships were a few of the many opportunities Sigma Tau Delta had to offer that solidified my submission to join. As well, learning about the workshops that are held within the chapter seemed very helpful and convenient for my pursuit in the writing industry.

About Helen
As a Chinese student who came in the US to live and study for 7 years, I know my unique position, and my goal is to explore more about the world and accept differences. I love writing, so I choose creative writing as my major (and I also chose Creative and Culture Industries as my minor, because I also love different cultures). I believe writing is the best way to shape and show their real thoughts and imaginations.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
I joined Sigma Tau Delta because I want to make more friends who have the same passion for writing, and I want to develop my media, socializing and English skills for my future.

About Catherine
Catherine Silva is an English and IES major, with a minor is Spanish. She was born and raised in Southern California though she doesn't like the beach. She is obsessed with language and has a fascination with verb conjunctions. Catherine can often be found reading book or watching Gilmore Girls.
Why did you join Sigma Tau Delta?
I joined Sigma Tau Delta as a way to get involved in campus. I love reading and writing and I felt that Sigma Tau Delta would be the perfect space to help grow that passion. I think that literature can connect people and I want to help foster a great community of writers and anyone who loves books and literature.

This is an awesome website that helps you search for literary journals you can submit your pieces to: The Grinder
You can do your own exploring with the generator, but on top of generating the “best” literary journals/competitions for your pieces, you’re also able to get information about how long it takes them to get back to you, if they're open for submissions, their acceptance rate, etc.
